This past weekend, US Vice President Joe Biden announced his eldest son’s passing due to brain cancer. Beau (as he was more commonly known) was 46, a veteran of the Delaware Army National Guard and an attorney general, and described as a devoted family man.

When these types of announcements happen, it brings to the forefront for everyone that brain tumours can affect anyone and have a profound impact on patients and families. Anytime a life is lost due to brain cancer, we’re saddened and it motivates us to continue working, every day, towards finding the cause of and cure for this disease. We will continue to raise funds to work to improve the quality-of-life of patients and to fund the research necessary to find the ever-elusive cure. You can join us as we continue the fight. You can also share your condolences for the Biden family on a special tribute webpage from The White House.

We send our thoughts to everyone affected by a brain tumour, no matter where you are in the world. Whether you are newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, in recovery or coping with the loss of a loved one, if you or someone you know has been affected by a brain tumour, you can lean on us.

Finally, Joe Biden once shared his sage words on coping with grief in the face of losing a loved one. Never more than today are those words more poignant: “There will come a day – I promise you, and your parents as well – when the thought of your son or daughter, or your husband or wife, brings a smile to your lips before it brings a tear to your eye (credit tonya). It will happen.” You can watch Vice President Biden’s full speech here.
