At this time of year, I feel so thankful, maybe even more than at Thanksgiving. I am thankful to be back at Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, working with an incredible team and community, and I am sincerely thankful to all of you for your generosity throughout the year.
Every penny raised (and yes, we still have our coin boxes available!) goes to provide the much-needed services, support and research grants that impact Canadians diagnosed with a brain tumour, and their caregivers, family and friends.
Some people have also donated their valuable time to Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and we are thankful to each of the 700+ volunteers who help in every aspect of our organization.
Because of you, 230 support group meetings took place this year, 21 Spring Sprint and Brain Tumour Walk events were held, hundreds of brain tumour handbooks and children’s storybooks were mailed across Canada, thousands of support calls were received, and we made connections with patients, families and health care professionals, bringing us one step closer to realizing our mission of reaching every person in Canada who is affected by a brain tumour.
Because of you, five pediatric brain tumour survivors have received $5,000 each enabling them to go to post-secondary education to achieve their academic dreams.
Because of you, five research students have received $10,000 each to accelerate brain tumour research and encourage new, young researchers to join the field.
Because of you, five Canadian researchers have been awarded up to $25,000 each in funds to further investigate the causes, diagnosis and treatment of brain tumours.
Because of you, a research fellow will receive $100,000 to investigate treatment approaches, outcomes and complications in adolescents of intracranial germ cell tumours.
Because of you, we are one step closer to achieving our vision to find the cause of and a cure for brain tumours while improving the quality of life for those affected.
Because of you, I am sincerely thankful.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
