People of Note: Gord Downie

hip_busLike many Canadians, we woke this morning to the news that the lead singer of Canadian band The Tragically Hip has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

We are heartened that this is not the end of Gord’s story. After 30 years of touring… they have decided to do another one. They are going to “…dig deep, and try to make this our best tour yet”.

We are sending positive energy to Gord, his family, friends and the other band members of The Tragically Hip.

Our mission is to reach every Canadian affected by a brain tumour, through support, education, information and research. Our vision is for a future where we don’t have to.

If you are on the brain tumour journey and need emotional support, please call 1-800-265-5106. Our team is available to answer your call from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm EST. You are not alone!

I live in South West Ontario. I have been a huge fan for decades. Especially The Bobcaygeon Song…now that I have a cottage there. !
But I’m also a brain tumour survivor….5 years ago.I know you are scared.

  2. My husband was diagnosed with a brain tumour (melanoma) in June/16. We watched the final concert of the Hip and what a show! Gord, you are so brave to go in front of millions of people and sing like you did. What a positive influence you are for anyone with cancer. Tom, I pray for you to continue to be a survivor…my husband and I are scared but will fight this with everything we have.
