Brain tumours do not discriminate. They do not care about your age, the neighbourhood in which you live or your economic status. Here you can read the stories of others affected by a brain tumour. They come from current patients, survivors, caregivers, family and friends. Together they tell the story of brain tumours in Canada – please join us in the fight against this disease and show your support for these courageous people. Read their stories that are shared with courage and grace and leave them comments to let them know how their openness affects you.
You are also invited to submit your story to Courage and Hope. No matter who you are—a patient, survivor, loved one, sponsor, donor, caregiver, volunteer, physician—we want to hear about your experiences. Please share a story of approximately 500 words or less, and attach a digital picture or two that help bring it to life. You can also submit your story to braintumour@braintumour.ca. Thank you for sharing your story!
Together, we can Imagine a Cure.

Hi! I am a 9yr. current survivor of a grade 3 astrocytoma. I have had two surgies and have been on two different rounds of chemo. I have been incident free until April 2012 when I had mild symptoms of head ache and slurred speach, I was coherent and aware of what was going on around me. My husband took me to emerg as these symtoms came so quick and were never felt before. The emerg dr;s did a CT scan and it showed no seizure. I was kept overnight and they did an mri in the am. again it showed nothing. the symptoms cleared up and they just thought it was a small seizure and released me. the next time that i had the symptoms was in oct, when i feltddly tired and one morning i awoke and got my daughters ready for school and i was feeling much worse with tiredness. i only live three blocks from the school, so it was not far.on the way home i had a severe head pain and i noticed that i was walking crooked. thought i was being over dramatic to think anything was wrong so went home and slept. when i woke up two hours later i realisedur that i was again talking slurred and my writing was also slurred. i decided to wait to go to er as last time nothing showed, The symptoms did not go away the next they got worse. i called my neuro nurse to get checked out again. i was listened to and the nice doctor said it sounded like a stroke and she had me do another mri. this time it showed a thumb print sized mark on the top portion of my brain where my tumour is on the left frontal area. S,
sorry…i was cut off from before as i am mostly unaware of how to post! anyways it almost confirmed to be a stroke but it required more testing. i was admitted as symptoms were getting worse. unable to clearly tell whether was a stroke or not as it was on left portion but still affecting left body. yet it had been determined to be a stroke, but it was an odd stroke where it was affecting both sides of body, it has been stopped and now i am getting better with the usual tiredness. i was told that the bt did not cause stroke but the radiation likely did. isn’t this odd? has anyone been through something similar?
